Marty Johnson, the Director of Education and Resident Director at iTheatrics, first became involved in the world of musical theatre when was 10 years old and his 4-H club put on an astonishing rendition of Peter Pan. Recently named by Playbill as one of the top ten educators who are shaping Broadway, Marty oversees all of iTheatrics’ educational programs including a partnership with the Turn Around Arts that led to Marty directing students for the first two White House Turnaround Arts Talent show hosted by former First Lady Michelle Obama.
Marty holds a graduate degree in Theatre for Youth from the University of North Carolina-Greensboro and just finished nine years of service as a board member for TYA/USA, the leading organization for the advancement of Theatre for Young Audiences in the world. He is also the co-author of “The iTheatrics Method: The Quintessential Guide to Creating Quality Musical Theatre Programs” published by GIA Publications, Inc.
The iTheatrics track at the GIA Fall Institute is designed to empower participants to create dynamic and sustainable music theater programs in both school and community settings. It is geared toward anyone who does musical theater with young people grades K through 12. The workshops in the iTheatrics track emphasize experiential learning, active skill building, and an overall focus on fun.
