The Bridge to Somewhere:

Teaching Musicianship Skill Through Choral Repertoire Suitable for Elementary and Middle School Singers

Thursday, October 11
10:00 AM – 11:15 AM
Room 4E

Clinician: Angela Broeker

Though many of us spend time teaching sight singing at the beginning of our rehearsals, choristers are not always able to see how the skills they build during this time impact the learning of their choral repertoire. In this session, the musical material found in choral octavos suitable for young singers will serve as the basis for music reading games and activities. We’ll learn to extract this material from the score (musical bits!) and present it in a way that simultaneously builds reading skills and prepares performance repertoire.
