Clinician: Fr. Michael Joncas
This keynote address will be focused on three things:
1) Introduce the listeners to theoretical reflections on the Sacred, including Rudolf Otto’s mysterium tremendum et fascinans
2) What makes acoustic phenomena especially suited for evoking/communicating the Sacred
3) how various religious and spiritual communities have expressed the Sacred in their music.
Afterwards, we will conclude as a group singing a Taizé ostinato to bring the search for the sacred sound to a concrete conclusion.
